A Life That Inspires: Sachin Pansare By: Aryan Gondkar XIB
Inspiration and curiosity are what drives a man. People hence search
far and wide for inspiration, but I found mine in our chemistry professor,
Sachin Pansare. A man of humble origins and a personality even humbler, he is a
man of great accomplishments and immense knowledge.
Born to a poor family in a small town, Sachin Pansare faced many
hardships. Determined to change his situation, he turned to the study of
science, specifically chemistry. The ideas and laws of science are used
everywhere, every day. This is the fact which got him interested. He chose
chemistry as it is a multidisciplinary science, allowing one to understand the
intricacies of biology while getting a grasp on concepts from physics.
He came to Pune city for higher studies in his youth but was
overwhelmed by the work he had. He once sought to run away, but the flooding of
the Indrayani river foiled his plans, forcing him to complete his studies.
“This,” he said in our interview, “was the event that shaped my life. I saw
that as a message from the universe.” He now has a Ph.D. in nanotechnology and
had applied for a patent, which was unfortunately leaked into South Korea and
falsely claimed. But he didn’t give up and is working on a second patent.
His career choice is interesting as he switched from a high-paying job
in Lupin Pharmaceuticals to teaching. He claims to have done so due to his love
for interacting with the youth, which he discovered while conducting a guest
lecture in a college.
His childhood is a phase he fondly recalls, as he had no parental
pressure and lived a rather jovial life. However, seeing his mother work hard
daily still had an impact on him. In fact, he describes her and her
perseverance as what inspires and motivates him.
He commented that science in the modern age is better understood and
simpler than in the past, mainly owing to the government investing to publish
textbooks, which apparently is a recent convenience. Besides science, he loves
to travel and see the world, but the lack of science in it bothers him; leading
him to make it his aim to spread science in every corner of India and then the
world.
