MAKING LIFE COLORFUL
Design
is a perfect response to bind people together and to upgrade human life through
synchronization of needs and solutions. Design can be implemented in business
as well as in daily life - these views were shared by Nikita Mahajan, a fashion
designer. She completed Ph.D. in Fashion Design at United world Institute of
Design (UID).
For designers, the creative
process consists of the attention to the details, overall planning and time
management. The most important quality of a designer is to have a different
vision for observation and inspiration. Everything is able to inspire a
designer. Absolutely, time-management is another important skill a designer
must have. Clearly, a designer should be able to convey and convince through
the designs. Undoubtedly, rough drawings and sketches perform a key role when
it comes to convincing others for seeking approval. There is a great feeling of
satisfaction for a designer when he comes to know that his designs are helpful
to others. Also, measuring the success of the designs is important because it
shows what works and what doesn’t.
Designers must stay aware of
current trends to stand out and keep their designs fresh. To stay updated, one
should have the commitment to continuous learning. Involvement of the designer
in the design community will help for the same. Indeed, color is a powerful way
to tell a story, convey emotion and establish a strong brand identity. Color
theory is the art of how colors interact, complement and contrast. Designers
use the elements of color theory to inform their work and invoke feelings in
the designs. Collaborating cross-functionally on a design project is
beneficial. Importantly, designers should know how to collaborate not just with
other designers but also with non-design team members. In this way, the
designers will get a new purpose and the non- design team members get the
designs which fulfill their requirements.
Last but not the least,
designers should have the ability to present their portfolio flawlessly. Apart
from this, designers must be proud of their work and confident about their
design skills. Without a doubt, harsh criticism can be used to bring the design
projects to the next level. Above all, designers must be able to appreciate a
feedback and never take criticism as a personal attack.
Now Miss Nikita also works as
an educator in design academies simultaneously. Interviewing my teacher was a
greatly beneficial experience for me as I aspire to make a mark in the fascinating
field of designing, myself!
